2. If students are in charge of their own learning, how will we be sure they learn what is important?
Give them specific guidelines and guidance along the way, feedback, and opportunities for peer assessment and self-assessment, and ongoing assessments
Conferencing about their final product
Have students do a reflection journal of what they are learning
Show me what you have learned through your preferred multiple intelligence; example- construct it, sing it, draw it, write about it
Relate what you have learned to real world problems
Show what you have learned through note-taking, graphic organizers, list, charts
The teacher identifies the "what" students need to know and let students choose the "how" they learn/show their learning.
